About:

Wantagh, N.Y. – On Sunday, October 20, the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team participated in the American Cancer Society’s annual event at Jones Beach (Wantagh, N.Y.): “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.”

“I feel that as women this is important for them to not only walk to raise money to find a cure, but also to see the lives it has touched,” commented Molloy Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Tom Campolettano. “I have had two family members suffer from this disease; I am sure that some of the girls have had someone they know as well. I am very proud of the fact that 23 girls took the time to wake up very early on a Sunday to walk for the cure.”

This marks the eighth-straight year that the Lions have participated in this walk.

The event, which was created in 1984, has inspired over eight million people to walk, and raised more than $460 million in the fight against breast cancer. The disease is the second-leading cancer found in women in the United States, and results in the second-most cancer deaths amongst women as well. As a result of the Making Strides events, more than four million women have been afforded potentially life-saving screening tests.
